Ningbo, in Zhejiang Province, China, boasts over 7,000 years of history. It thrived as a trading port during the Tang and Song dynasties, playing a crucial role in maritime commerce. Today, Ningbo is a modern metropolis with a robust economy, especially in manufacturing and shipping, benefiting from its strategic location along the East China Sea.
Often called the quieter sister of Shanghai, Ningbo offers a more relaxed atmosphere while featuring its own version of the iconic Bund. This waterfront area highlights stunning views and historical architecture, contrasting sharply with Shanghai's vibrant energy.
Ningbo's international appeal has diminished due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a significant decline in entertainment and cultural events. This shift has transformed the once-thriving international scene, altering the city’s cultural landscape.

Transport
City Get Around: Please refer to local Taxi Apps
There are direct flights that go from HK to Ningbo; alternatively, trains from Shanghai take under 2 hours direct.

Restaurant and Nightlife
Food is at the heart of most Asian cultures and Ningbo is no different. Here are some of my finds in this trip.
La Charcoal
The highlight of the trip. Creative Western/Spanish cuisine accompanied by live entertainment after 9:00 pm. One of the few spots in the Old Bund offering a good wine list and expertly crafted cocktails.
蟹江南·蟹黄面(东鼓道店)
A crab specialty restaurant near Tienyi Square, freshly prepared and situated on the underground shopping street, perfect for rainy days.
五一海鮮樓
A bustling seafood restaurant located near the Chenghuang Miao Commercial Pedestrian Street. The quality of the cuisine is commendable, and patrons can observe the lively atmosphere.
WT1700(外滩店)
Another decent western restaurant in the Old Bund area. It does quiet on the outside as dining area is on the 1st floor.
陈有春鲜活牛肉店·土黄牛肉潮汕价·沙茶金蒜潮汕味(来福士店)
You can't leave China without having hotpot. Great selection of beef cuts, no-frills but tasty!
