Another long awaited trip for me, Melbourne being the more creative and cultural hub of Australia has always been a city at the top of my list. I had an great opportunity to go with a few friends whilst keeping a few days to myself.
Weather in Melbourne could be a bit extreme especially in Feb. We experience some seriously intense heat and this is something to be aware of since a lot of it's activities are based outdoor.

Accommodation
Most of the established hotels are in the CBD area of Melbourne and although convenient, it can look a bit soulless. On this occasion I have decided to stay at the Veriu Collingwood as it is a hipper neighbourhood and more interesting cafes, boutique shops and restaurants.
The Veiru Group has been a favourite of mine for a while since my first visit to Australia a few years ago. The room sizes are always decent and inclusive of a washing machine. However note at this property even thought the stated room size is generous, a lot of footage was wasted at the entrance corridor so the actual bed area felt a bit cramped.
Restaurants
Australian has always been celebrated as one of the world's culinary powerhouses for it's diverse culture and close proximity to great source of seafood and meat. Here are some of the noteworthy restaurants I have had the pleasure to visit.
Marion Wine Bar
Hands down my favourite wine bar bistro in Melboune for me. A solid wine selection and menu with interesting flair in Fitzroy.
Pinchy's
Tucked away on the 1st floor of a mall with its own balcony in the CBD. Fun global fusion seafood joint. The tasting menu is particular helpful for single travellers.
Tamago
Simple Japanese eatery near my hotel. Nothing to write home about but the sushi is freshly made so much better alternative than the supermarket ones.
Etta
One of the most popular restaurants in Melbourne right now. I enjoyed it but can't help to feel it's a bit over hyped.
Jimmy Watson's / Wolf's Lair
These are 2 establishments that share the same property. I only had a drink there but seems like a good vibe and have solid Italian menu.
Jonny's Green Room
Great rooftop bar Carlton. A much younger crowd as it is in a nice student neighbourhood. We only had drinks here.
Florian
Known for their non-tradition brunch and sandwiches. Very busy and reservation is probably needed.
Fluffy Torpedo
Another interesting gelato shop other than the famous Messina.
Terror Twilight
A casual brunch cafe next to my hotel. Great vibe and helpful staff. A solid breakfast option in the area.
Old Palm Liquor
A bit out of the way in the industrial Brunswick as I had a work meeting there. Great setting with a great selection of craft beer.
Ponyfish Island
Great place for a sundowner as it is right on the Yarra River below a bridge.
Piccolina Gelateria
A gelato place in the CBD. It had a queue.
Waterfront
A touristy restaurant by the river. It was ok.
Oyster Bar
A standing seafood joint in the Victoria Market. I didn't have food there but the place seems like a good area for lunch and sightseeing.
Attractions
Melbourne is such a well developed city for tourists so the schedule is pretty standard.
Great Ocean Road
One of the must do for Melbourne. When booking note there are 2 directions the tour can go.
South of Yarra
Melbourne Skydeck
National Gallery of Victoria
Royal Botanic Garden
Shrine of Remembrance
M Pavilion
North of Yarra
Hosier Lane
Degraves Street
The Block Arcade
Royal Arcade
China Town
LGBT (Victoria Pride)
Victoria Pride happens every year around Feb and weather can get a bit extreme. We were experiencing 36-38 degrees sun during that weekend and it could get dangerous. Other than that it is a great experience. A section of Smith Street is blocked for the day and all the LGBT venues are pumping with various events.
